Hey all! I just attended a webinar with AJJuliani, George Couros, and Katie Novak about inclusion in remote learning 4/1/2020
At the Forefront: Relationships/community building
Strengths affirmed! at LES
- thinking about getting kids Creating, vs. Consuming
- finding ways to connect
- proactively offering options for all kids on and off the internet
- Checking in with families and kids--ASK what else can I do to help you?
- consistency and setting up office hours (I think Rhonda talked about this today)
- our new webpage will offer consistency..
Suggestions:
- kids as problem finders, what do they care about? what is a problem they want to solve? what strengths can we help them build on?
- ask kids: What is something we learned about this year that you wish you had more time to explore? (I wonder how many kids would jump at the opportunity to create/tell more stories? for instance)
- No tech options that are not Paper based (create rather than consume). SHOW learning
- following a passion
- exploring the environment/world around them
- documenting a learning journey
- genius hour
- reading
- creation station
- Vintage/innovation...Creating things at home, then documenting or collaborating with friends and or sharing using photo, video, blogging, etc
- Time: not how much time on learning, but rather what did you accomplish today?
Learning Conversations;
- feedback: answering students questions
- Evaluation/praise style feedback
- Mastery oriented feedback-- what could we do better? (two way street!)
That is it for me right now! I felt really good that so much of what I heard tonight WE (You Amazing Classroom Teachers!) ARE ALREADY DOING! Yay! Very Affirming!

Thanks for reading! I welcome comments, and conversation about UDL related topics! As I have told colleagues at my school, I’m happy to make time for a chat.
